The epidural steroid injections diminish the nerves tenderness or swelling in the Epidural space that successively lessens soreness, tingling & numbness and other signs caused by nerve irritation or swelling.

Epidural steroid injections are not new discovery. The use of epidural steroid injections to treat low back pain was initially acknowledged in 1901. For the first time, epidural steroid injections were used to treat low back pain with associated sciatica in 1952. Now-a-days, epidural steroid injections act as a vital part of non-surgical management of low back pain.

The injecting procedure is too simple, which involves inserting a needle thru skin and thicker tissues. Epidural steroid injections contain a combination of local anesthetic like lidocaine or bupivacaine and the steroid medication triamcinolone – Aristocort or methylprednisolone – Depo-medrol, Celestone-Soluspan. Epidural steroid injections place this influential anti-inflammatory medication straightly around the spinal nerves. The three different ways to perform an epidural steroid injection are caudal block,
translumbar and transforaminal.

Epidural steroid injections may be given by different physicians comprising anesthetists, orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, interventional radiologists, and others trained in this technique. Mainly, the patients are given a sequence of three epidural steroid injections with a time gap of one week.

With this program, lots of patients get relief of symptoms within a few weeks. Often this assists manage the inflammatory process and may provide continuous relief. Like other medical procedures, epidural steroid injections are not risk-free. There is a possibility of fallouts and complications from the needle puncture and medications used. Side-effects from epidural steroid injections are uncommon, but some of the fallouts seen include bleeding, infection, dural tears, headache, increased blood sugar, and diabetics.

It is significant that patients scheduled for epidural steroid injections adopt the pre-procedure directions provided. icinal Herbs – Powerful Medicinal Plants of Mother Earth

Medicinal Herbs – Powerful Medicinal Plants of Mother Earth

Mother Nature never fails to surprise us through her abilities to provide for us in terms of food and medicine. Before the advent of prescription medicines, doctors back then resorted to using medicinal herbs to treat certain symptoms of illnesses. Dating back as far as a millennium, people have survived on the use of medicinal plants to treat their illnesses. Nowadays, we are now reliant on over-the-counter or prescription medications, but it doesn’t mean we ruled out the use of these herbs. Some medicines and supplements contain natural herbs as their main ingredients, while medicinal herbs fall under the category of alternative medicine. The only difference between medicinal herbs and modern medicine is that the former needs scientific study to gauge their medicinal properties.
Below are some of the most powerful medicinal plants that Mother Nature is able to provide us:
1. ) Marijuana – Though it is an illegal plant in the USA, it is legal in 12 states because of medicinal properties. Until the late 1970, marijuana was completely legal before it was characterized as a hard drug. The health benefits of Marijuana are documented and ranged from relief of anxiety and depression to blood pressure treatment to glaucoma treatment. The hemp is also considered as a renewable plant which offers other benefits that surpass both plastic and cotton.
2. ) Korean Mint or Hyssop – Plants that involve minty flavors are always considered to have medicinal properties, and one notable mint plant is the Hyssop. Like other minty plants, the Korean Mint can do more than just alleviate headaches and stomach pains. The Hyssop is also an effective anti-viral which is ideal for battling coughs and colds. Other mints like spearmint, applemint, and regular old mint are also reported to have medicinal properties.
3. ) Alfalfa – Alfalfa is used for food for livestock for a reason. The Alfalfa is rich in minerals and other healthy compounds. Dubbed as the “father of all plants”, Alfalfa contains the highest amount of protein. The Alfalfa is a native plant in the Mediterranean and Middle East but has been found in other regions in Europe and North America. The medicinal properties of Alfalfa include, but are not limited to, treating nausea and morning sickness, kidney stones and kidney pain, and symptoms of urinary discomfort. It is also noted for its ability to clean the kidney and liver, and its ability to keep cholesterol levels low.
4. ) Catnip – Catnip is the marijuana of the Cat kingdom. Despite making cats crazy, it’s still noted for its medicinal properties and benefits. Catnip is an excellent remedy for colds and can also stop swelling and bleeding when applied. Catnip is also one of those mint plants, so it’s reported to have abilities that can relieve symptoms of stomach aches and migraines.
No one should ever underestimate the power of alternative medicine. Remember, medicinal herbs have been around far longer than modern medicine.

Working Out With Baby

Decades ago, conventional wisdom led women to believe that they were extremely fragile during pregnancy.
This meant halting all physical activities such as exercise and basically becoming a couch potato. Thankfully, today women know better than that.

Exercise does wonders during pregnancy, because it greatly improves your overall health and wellbeing. It boosts mood, enhances the quality of sleep, reduces pregnancy aches and pains, and prepares you for childbirth by strengthening muscles and building endurance. This is especially important because during pregnancy and childbirth, a woman’s body is subjected to a great deal of stress. Exercise also makes it much easier to get back in shape after your baby’s born, and helps ease constipation, backache, fatigue, varicose veins, circulation problems and other health issues related to pregnancy.

The most recommended exercises for pregnant women are walking, swimming, yoga, stretching, and low-impact aerobics. Pelvic exercises called Kegel exercises are also beneficial to the expectant mother, helping to strengthen the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor muscles support the uterus, bowel, and bladder; these body parts are put under pressure during pregnancy and childbirth.

Before beginning an exercise regimen during pregnancy, it is important for women to first consult your healthcare provider. This is to eliminate any possible medical conditions such as preterm rupture of membranes, pregnancy-induced hypertension, preterm labor, persistent second- or third-trimester bleeding, poor fetal growth, incompetent cervix or multiple-birth pregnancy which may preclude a pregnant woman from exercising. Women must also take care not to become overheated or dehydrated while exercising. An increase in core body temperatures in early pregnancy can cause fetal defects, and dehydration in late pregnancy is associated with premature labor. This can be avoided by drinking plenty of fluids and wearing loose, comfortable clothes. You must wear a brassiere providing full support to the breasts and shoes that provide cushioning for your foot or joints. A warm-up and cool-down phase should be included in any exercise regime, with an emphasis to gentle stretching to prevent muscle strain, muscle cramps and joint injuries. Knee joints are more prone to injury because of the pregnancy hormone relaxin, which softens ligaments and tendons. Avoid exercises on your back after the first trimester or whenever you feel dizzy, lightheaded or nauseated because the weight of your uterus puts pressure on the vein responsible for returning blood from the lower body to the heart.

If you already had an exercise regimen prior to becoming pregnant, you can probably still work out at the same level during pregnancy, as long as your body is comfortable and your doctor gives his blessing. Generally, extremely vigorous physical activity is not recommended during pregnancy. This includes contact sports, such as football and basketball; adventure sports, such as water skiing and scuba diving; and sports that carry a high risk of trauma, such as horseback riding and downhill skiing. The best way to gauge if you are overdoing the exercise is if you experience symptoms such as chest pains and vaginal bleeding or uterine contractions. This is your cue to stop exercising immediately and seek medical advice.

Many hospitals and fitness centers are now offering exercise classes especially for pregnant women, which allow participants not only the opportunity to exercise but to be in the company of others like themselves. This lets them share their aches and pains with someone who really understands how they feel, therefore building the wide support system which is important to women. The way you feel and the way you look during pregnancy and as a new mother depend on how you take care of yourself during pregnancy regarding diet and exercise. By eating a sensible diet and by exercising on a regular basis, you can maintain or improve your fitness and health during this time when there are extra demands on your body.

Arthritis is that painful swelling and stiffness in the joints and is also, an irritating reminder of the inevitable aging process. It strikes many and is often unavoidable. “Unavoidable” is hardly the same thing as “untreatable,” though. There are plenty of ways to make arthritis easier to live with. This article has some tips to help any arthritis sufferer.

Learn the information that is out there about your condition. When you get the diagnosis of your specific type of arthritis, hit the internet and all the sources that are offered, even pamphlets and brochures from the doctor‘s office, all about arthritis and your specific type, so you know what you are dealing with and how to fight back.

One if the big factors that has been linked to arthritis and decreasing your overall health is smoking. Do not smoke. This lifestyle factor has been associated and known to cause severe joint damage when coupled with people who have arthritis. So improve your health and make your joints feel better by not smoking.

Don’t become disheartened if the first arthritis therapy you try does not work. Sometimes it takes quite a bit of hit-and-miss before you finally settle on something that really works for you. Be sure to give each type of arthritis pain therapy that you try enough of a chance to have an effect. However, remember there are always more kinds of therapy to try if one just doesn’t work out.

Learn tai-chi. Tai-chi is a mind and body connective technique, that is also a form of light martial arts. Using tai-chi can help to convince yourself your body is not in as much pain as your mind believes. Some arthritis sufferers even claim that the use of this method allows them to use their mind to convince their body they are more flexible.

Find a hobby that you can easily perform. Many people who suffer from arthritis spend their days wishing they had something they could actually do, and you can prevent this boredom by searching out your own new hobby. Whether it is painting or dancing, having something to get you moving will keep you healthy.

Take the time to have your family educated about your rheumatoid arthritis and the different challenges that will occur while you live with this condition. There are classes available through The Arthritis Foundation, and there are many books available that can be used to teach your family about the condition.

Even though arthritis cannot be cured, there are many things you can do to get your pain under control. Be sure to discuss alternative treatments with your doctor that will give you more control over your pain symptoms. A feeling of empowerment will help you get the most out of your arthritis therapy.

While it may not be possible to dodge arthritis, it is almost always possible to deal with it. Simple steps, like the ones in this article, can ease arthritis pains and make it easier to put the affliction out of mind. The sufferer bears no responsibility for the onset of arthritis, but he or she can do a lot to minimize its impact.
